UNESCO Strategy for Action on Climate Change : GeoMôn’s response
The latest European Geopark Network conference highlighted the UNESCO Strategy on Climate Change which is to encourage Member States to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts through education, sciences, culture, information and communication, in line with their
respective Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the COP 21 Paris Agreement, and in the overall context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDG 13.
161 UNESCO GeoParks in 44 countries are important instruments in the implementation of the UNESCO Strategy for Action on Climate Change and can help encourage Member States to implement their climate change mitigation and adaptation commitments and aspirations under the Climate Change Convention.
GeoMôn is working on a climate change display as a major feature of our geopark information centre in Porth Amlwch whenever it is allowed to re-open after the COVID lockdown.
