Unesco Assisted Geopark

Young Geologists Club

Various activities and projects take place at the Young Geologists Club for children aged 4 to 11 years. Usually filling our Watch Tower visitor centre at Porth Amlwch, with enthusiastic chatter as they make model dinosaurs, fossils of blow-up volcanoes.

The YGC also holds geological walks which culminates in our activities during 'Geopark Week', held at the end of May and beginning of June.

Dr Mike Roberts takes a group on a walk along the coast to see the tropical fossils Red Wharf Bay.

Dr Mike Roberts equipped the children with hard hats and buckets and took the children to see the ice age drumlin. Mike explained to the children all about the life cycle of pebbles on Cemlyn Beach. The children had great fun collecting pebbles for the competition. Congratulations goes to Liam Gillham, aged 9, who won the ‘Most Perfect Pebble’ competition. Liam’s pebble will now be polished up with a selection of other pebbles collected on the day. The polished pebbles will be given back to the children at the next meeting. As luck would have it, we were also treated to a wonderful show by the nesting terns and watched a group of grey seals sunbathing!
