Tours & Excursions

Field excursions for groups under 10 persons (5 persons minimum) charged at £5 per person for 2 hours or half day trips and £10 for a full day using your own transport to the sites.

Groups of 10 or more £2 per person per hour led by a trained guide or excursions with tuition from a trained geologist or other scientist for educational groups will be charged at £2.50 per hour per person (lower rates for schools- prices determined on request). School groups must be accompanied by a relevant number of their own teaching staff.

Maximum group size is 30

Excursions

1. Cemaes, Llanbadrig 2 hours (Precambrian rocks and the St Patrick connection).

2. Red Wharf Bay 2 hours (Carboniferous Limestone and the sandstone pipes) - tide dependent

3. South Stack 2 hours (spectacullar folding and faulting of Cambrian rocks) an igneous dyke, ancient hut circles and typical soils are included in this tour. Entry to the lighthouse, when open, is charged separately but is not obligatory on this tour.

4. Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead 2 hours. Cambrian and Precambrian rocks. The reaction of different types of rock to folding will be shown as well as coastal erosion and the history of the quarry.

5. Llanddwyn Island and Newborough Forest 4 hours. For students this shows an ancient oceanic plate with spectacular pillow lavas formed at a constructive plate margin and the world famous melange rock formed in a deep ocean trench at a destructive plate margin. For the general public the spectacular fascinating lavas on the beach, coloured rocks, St Dwynwen, the history of the island and the superb flora make this a truly memorable walk. tide dependent.
